Anchored in Scripture: Kayla and Liam’s Bible Study Journey to “Fight the Good Fight”
When Kayla and her 10-year-old son, Liam, joined our “Put on the New Self” Bible study, they arrived with open hearts. Over weeks of digging into God’s Word together, this mother-son duo didn’t just learn about transformation—they experienced it. Rooted in Scripture and focused solely on the Biblical truths, their journey became a powerful testament to the life-changing power of God’s Word.

The Foundation: “No Psychology, Just Scripture”
From the start, this study was clear: “It’s not about self-help—it’s about God’s help.” Kayla and Liam immersed themselves in the word of God, discovering what it means to be “new creations” in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) and soldiers in God’s army. Each session centered on verses like Ephesians 4:22-24, where Paul urges believers to “put off the old self” and “put on the new self,” and Ephesians 6:10-18, which paints the vivid picture of the Armor of God.
Liam, with his childlike wonder, asked questions about Hell and Heaven. That sparked a deep dive into the “Eternity like Scenarios from the Bible”. Kayla smiled as she shared how Liam’s journey began with a bible verse from the radio station. We shared how his prayer should be every morning “Jesus help me today,” as you put on your armor of God.
Boot Camp for the Soul: Training in God’s Word
This wasn’t a passive study—it was a spiritual training ground. Each week, Kayla and Liam:
- Studied their identity as “new creatures” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
- Mapped out their mission as soldiers in Christ’s army, 2 Timothy 2:3-4: “Endure hardship as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs.”
- Practiced using spiritual weapons, like prayer and Scripture, to combat lies and fear. Liam took notes and highlighted his Bible verses and he was ready to go!
Now when Liam faces bullying at school, he won’t respond with anger. Instead, he will ask what did Jesus do!?
The Daily Battle: “Fight the Good Fight”
The study culminated in a challenge: Live like soldiers on active duty, ending with James 1:5, if we need wisdom we can ask God for it.
A Legacy of Faith in Action

By the end of the study, the fruit was undeniable. “This wasn’t about changing habits,” Pastor Josue said. “It was about letting God’s Word change their hearts. Psychology can’t do that—only Scripture can.”
Their story is a rallying cry for believers: We are soldiers, equipped not with human wisdom but with divine power. As Paul writes, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood… but against the spiritual forces of evil” (Ephesians 6:12). Kayla and Liam learned to stand firm.
Ephesians 6:13 (NIV)
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
