The Fresno House of Prayer exists to glorify God. Equipping people to follow Christ through preaching the sound doctrine of Jesus Christ.
Glorifying God means recognizing and honoring the greatness of His goodness. According to Scripture, this is the reason why all things exist (Isaiah 43:6-7, Isaiah 48:9-11, Ezekiel 36:22-36, Ephesians 1:3-11).
This is especially what we want to do as His Church (Ephesians 3:21).
According to Scripture, there is a specific way for all believers to glorify God. After Jesus rose from the dead, He gave His followers the command to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that He commanded them”
(Matthew 28:19). In a general sense, we understand this to be the mission of the church. The Apostle Paul further clarified this mission by teaching that God gives the ministerial leaders of local churches “to equip the saints for works of service, for building up the body of Christ…” (Ephesians 4:12).
Our goal is to accomplish the task of equipping Christ’s followers through two primary means: the Bible and community. Under the Apostle Paul’s instructions, the early believers also dedicated themselves to these two things (Acts 2:42).
The Word of God and the People of God have always been the primary means the Spirit of God uses to equip His church.
Our mission at the Fresno House of Prayer is to teach the entire Word of God in order to understand and apply the Word of God, which contains everything God’s people need for life and godliness (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3-4).
With love,
Pastors Josue & Brittany Gomez
The Bible is our only and all-sufficient rule of faith and conduct. From it we derive the following Declaration of Faith as the doctrinal foundation that, at the House of Prayer, guides us in learning and teaching the Word of God.
I Cor. 1:10; Acts 2:42; Eph. 4:13.
The following is our Declaration of Faith:
The Bible is the inspired Word of God; a revelation from Him to man, our infallible rule of faith and conduct, superior to reason and conscience. 2 Tim. 3:15-16; 2 Pet. 1:21.
2. GOD
The one true God has revealed himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM.” Ex. 3:14. But in this essential unity there is a distinction of persons, namely: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Deut. 6:4; Mark 12:29; Isa. 43:10-11; Matt. 28:19. God is an infinite, eternal, and inscrutable Spirit in his being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.
2.1. THE TRINITY
The terms TRINITY and PERSONS in relation to the Godhead are words in harmony with the Holy Scriptures regarding the being of God, to distinguish him from “many gods and many lords.” Therefore, we can properly speak of the Lord our God as one LORD and as a TRINITY and be in complete agreement with the Scriptures. Matt. 3:16; Luke 3:21; Gen. 1:26, 11:7; Isa. 6:8; II Cor. 13:14.
2.1.1. DISTINCTION AND UNITY IN THE TRINITY
Christ taught the distinction of persons in the Godhead in very specific terms of their relationship to each other as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Matt. 28:19, 11:25-27; John 14:16-17. For this reason, we see that the Son is constituted, not the Father, and that the Holy Spirit constitutes the Holy Spirit, not the Father or the Son. Therefore, the Father is the begetter, the Son is the begotten, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from both, that is, from the Father and the Son. However, all three persons in the Trinity are in a state of unity. There is only one name: THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY. Jn. 1:18, 15:26, 17:11-26; Zech. 14:9; Rev. 15:3.
2.1.2. IDENTITY AND COOPERATION IN THE GODLINESS
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are never identical as persons; they are not confused in their relationships, nor are they divided with respect to the Godhead, nor do they oppose cooperation. The Son is in the Father, and the Father is in the Son in their relationships. The Son is with the Father, and the Father is with the Son in their fellowship. The Father does not proceed from the Son, but the Son proceeds from the Father in terms of authority. In terms of relationship, cooperation, and authority, the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. Hence, no person of the Godhead can exist or act separately or independently of the others. Jn. 5:17-30, 8:17-18; 1 Cor. 12:3-6.
2.2. GOD THE FATHER
In the spiritual nature of God, there is the person of the Father. Eternal in the proper and absolute sense. Exemplary in relation to the created work. By adoption in relation to redeemed man. Mt. 16:27; Lk. 10:22; Jn. 1:12; Col. 2:9. As Father, his relationship is fourfold. The relationship of the Father to the Son is one of paternity; the relationship of the Son to the Father is filial; the relationship of the Father and the Son to the Holy Spirit is one of origin and sending; and the relationship of the Triune God to creation is one of origin, preservation, providence, and redemption. Gen. 1:26; Jn. 16:13-15, 17:21; Col. 1:15-20. The Lord Jesus Christ taught that the distinctive functions of the Father are not operative in the Divine essence, but in the mutual relations between the Divine persons. Therefore, the Father is no more eternal than the Son, the Son is no less than the Father, nor are both more eternal than the Holy Spirit. Neither has more or less of the Godhead. Isa. 9:6; Mt. 3:17; Jn. 1:1.
2.3. GOD THE SON
2.3.1. THE DIVINITY OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God in the singular, unique sense, from his conception in the virgin womb of the blessed Mary. Luke 1:30-35; Ps. 2:1-9; Matt. 14:33. The Scriptures declare:
2.3.1.1. His preexistence John 1:1; Col. 1:16.
2.3.1.2. His virgin birth Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:31-35.
2.3.1.3. His immaculate life Hebrews 7:26; 1 Pet. 2:22.
2.3.1.4. His miracles Acts 14:16. 2:22; 10:38.
2.3.1.5. His substitutionary work on the Cross. 1 Cor. 15:3; 2 Cor. 5:21.
2.3.1.6. His bodily resurrection from the dead. Matt. 28:6; Luke 24:39; 1 Cor. 15:4.
2.3.1.7. His exaltation to the right hand of God. Acts 1:9-11, 2:33; Phil. 2:9-11; Hebrews 1:3.
2.3.1.8. His second coming. Matt. 24:30; John 14:2; Acts 1:11.
2.3.2. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
The name The Lord Jesus Christ is a proper name that expresses His sovereignty, mission, and exaltation. In the New Testament, it is never applied to the Father or the Holy Spirit. Therefore, in the name of Jesus, we bow our knees and confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father until the end comes, when the Son will be subject to the Father and God will be in all. Heb. 1:3; Mt. 28:18; Eph. 1:21.
2.3. 3. IMMANUEL
The Lord Jesus Christ, in terms of His human nature, is the only and properly begotten of the Father. Therefore, He is the Son of Man, who, being God, is Emmanuel: God with us. Isa. 7:14. Since the name Emmanuel encompasses God and man in one person, the begetting of Mary. Mt. 1:23; 2 Jn. 3:8; Heb. 7:3; 1 John 4:2-10; Rev. 1:13-17.
2.3.4. EQUAL HONOR FOR THE SON AS FOR THE FATHER
Since the Father has entrusted all judgment to the Son, it is not only the express duty in heaven and on earth to bow one’s knees before Him, but it is also an unspeakable joy in the Holy Spirit. All the attributes of deity are attributed to the Son, giving Him the honor and glory contained in all the names of the Godhead (except those that express relationship. See the concepts of the Holy Trinity in the paragraphs under 2.1).
2.4. GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
2.4.1. We believe in the Holy Spirit as an incorporeal person, yet real, possessing all that constitutes a personality, capable of thinking, feeling, and determining. 1 Cor. 2:10-13; 12:11; Rom. 8:26; Acts 13:2-4, 7; Eph. 4:30.
2.4.2. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person distinct from the Father and the Son, since there are operations that distinguish him from them.
Example: The Father and the Son send him. Mt. 28:19; Jn. 14:16; 15:26; 2 Cor. 13:13.
2.4.3. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, to whom the Scriptures apply attributes of God: Eternity (Heb. 9:14), Omniscience (Jn. 10:14). 14:26, 16:12-13. Omnipotence Lk. 1:35, Omnipresence Ps. 139:7-10 and to whom is conferred equality of majesty and rank: Mt. 28:19; 1 Cor. 12:2-6; Mt. 12:31; Acts 5:3. 3.
